A beautiful but venomous snake, this European Adder (Vipera berus) is coiled and well-camouflaged amongst the the brown, fallen leaves of Autumn in a British woodland.
A Grey Fantail (Rhipidura albiscapa) pauses momentarily on a moss-covered branch overhanging a small river, before continuing its pursuit of insect prey swarming just above the waters surface.
A Sri Lankan Green Pit Viper (Trimeresurus trigonocephalus) coiled in low branches over a small stream in Sinharaja Forest Reserve of Sri Lanka. It is an endemic species to Sri Lanka; found nowhere else on the planet. The snake can inflict a very painful bite with localised symptoms, but no fatalities have been reported.
